Achieve an Old-World Feel on Concrete with DRYLOK® Concrete Stain & Toner

DRYLOK® Concrete Stain & Toner lets you achieve a layered, faux or single color look in a lot less time than acid stains. It is a quick-drying, easy-to-apply, water-based, semi-opaque coating that can be used alone or with other colors for a decorative finish. Different looks will be achieved each time, depending on how smooth or porous the surface is.

How It Works: Unlike acid stains, color is not determined by composition of the concrete; no neutralizing required. DRYLOK® Concrete Stain & Toner penetrates the porous surface of the concrete to achieve the tone in the can. It is less expensive to use DRYLOK® Concrete Stain & Toner to brighten and decorate aged concrete. In addition, the adhesion is much greater than a concrete paint. It is the perfect product to mimic old-world stone and marble without masking the surface texture.

Preparation and Application

Proper surface prep is essential to product performance. Surface should be clean, dry, sound and free of dirt, dust, oil, wax and grease. Follow label instructions carefully.

1. General Surface Preparation:

Surfaces must be thoroughly clean. If using a pressure washer, do not use a setting above 1750 psi.

Surface must be dry prior to applying the  DRYLOK® Stain & Toner. Surface porosity is important for proper product penetration.

2. Acid Etching Instructions:

Treat highly troweled or dense smooth concrete with DRYLOK® Etch (liquid or powder) or muriatic acid, according to manufacturer’s directions. Properly prepared concrete should look and feel like medium grit sandpaper. If concrete remains smooth, repeat etching procedure.

3. Application:

Air and surface temperatures must be above 50°F during application and dry time.

Do not apply in direct sunlight. Apply one coat of DRYLOK® Concrete Stain & Toner using a brush, a 1/4″ or 3/8” nap roller, a foam roller or by spray.
